The Interior Design Society requires that its members be of good
character, seek high standards, maintain business and professional
integrity and display imagination and creative ability. All
members conform to the following philosophy, making these
characteristics representative of membership in the Society.
General Commitments of The Designer and Store

The Interior Design Society member performs professional services in
a manner reflecting the highest standards and integrity. The IDS
member properly serves the interest of the firm and customer equally
with competence, enthusiasm, fairness, and prompt fulfillment of all
obligations to the firm and customer.

The IDS member exhibits conduct crediting the profession and the
name and reputation of the firm at all times.

Professional Commitments of the Designer and Store

The Interior Design Society member recognizes the professional
interdependence of the designer, store, and customer. The member
serves the employer/employee relationship with loyalty and
goodwill. The member does not discredit any other designers,
members, firms or competing products, nor make any statements
injuring the personal reputation of any person with whom he may
have a professional relationship.

Members are obligated to encourage qualified young persons who
wish to study Interior Design, offering as much time and effort
possible to assist them in seeking proper training and establishing
personal objectives.

The IDS member acquires additional training and education and
contributes to the training of others, whenever possible.

Commitments of The Designer and Store to The Society

If elected to office or given another assignment, the IDS member
serves with enthusiasm and good judgment. If unable to serve, the
member will make every effort to contribute to the overall good of
the Society in other ways.

It is the obligation of all members to assist in the maintenance of the
Society and its high standards for membership. This includes
maintaining a current position regarding payment of all fees and
reporting any violations or deviations from proper practice of the
profession in order to protect the good name and reputaion of the
Society.

All persons and stores applying for membership agree to this code.
Any member, officer, or chapter reports violations in writing to the
Society's Board of Directors. Persons accused of violations are given
at least 10 days notice of any hearing or review of the charges. The
decision regarding disposition of such charges is made by the
National Board of Directors and is considered final.
